Changes for Individual Retirement Accounts
The Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act includes some changes to your Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). You may elect to waive your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for 2020. The deadline to make a contribution for the 2019 tax year has now been extended to July 15, 2020. Due to these changes, there will be a delay in receiving your 5498 tax form. Economic Stimulus Checks
Many members will see the upcoming federal stimulus payment come into their Sandia Area account as a direct deposit starting April 15. Those members who did not have their tax refund set up as a direct deposit will instead receive a paper check for their stimulus payment that will come in the next few weeks. Remember that the IRS will never call you asking to verify or provide your financial information so that you can receive payment. Starting on May 26th our branches willl be open for teller transactions, an appointment will be required to meet with a Member Services Officer. We have increased safety measures, including social distancing, germ guards, and lower capacity limits. In alignment with current state regulations, please wear a mask or face covering during your visit.
The simplest way for you to access your accounts is through our online banking and mobile banking apps. They are available 24/7 to complete many day-to-day banking tasks. Signup is easy and viewing balances, transactions, transferring funds, paying bills or sending money to someone else is simple, easy and cost effective. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Sandia Area is waiving your minimum payment due for any Sandia Area Mastercard® on your upcoming payment date. Any member with a Sandia Area Mastercard who is not more than 30 days delinquent, or has not been delinquent more than five (5) times in the last 12 months is eligible. You will not need to do anything, and the payment waiver will be reflected in your next statement. If you would still like to make a payment on your credit card, you are able to, but it is not required this month. If you do not qualify, but need payment assistance, please fill out the form below.
We know that sometimes people experience difficulty making their payments and we are here to help. We may be able to assist you by allowing you to defer a payment.
Deferring a payment:
- Temporarily pauses the monthly payment due
- The regular payment amount due will resume once the deferment date has passed
To assist you during this time, Sandia Area:
- Does not charge a fee for deferring a payment
- Will not report the deferred payments to the credit bureaus
If you need to request a payment deferral, please complete the form below. If approved, we will process your request for a 60 day deferral of your payment. You can also submit a request by texting us at: 505.256.6062 and answering the series of questions via SMS.
The processing time is approximately 48 business hours from the time you complete the request. If additional information is required, a member of our special accounts team will reach out to you via the phone number or email address that you provide.
