Conserve Energy This Holiday Season

Putting up lights is a big part of many people’s holiday decorating, both inside and out. Take a look at these energy-efficient ways to avoid wasting energy, and save you green, during the holidays.

Use LED Lights

LED lights not only use 90% less electricity than other lights, they can last between 50,000 and 200,000 hours. Bonus, since you don’t have to replace strings of lights as often, there is less waste in landfills.

Use Smart plugs and timers

These are a great way to control when your lights go on and off. A smart plug can connect to smart devices in your home that allow you to set timers, or control the lights with an app on your phone or via voice control. Timers can be manually set to come on and off at certain times, or be set to not allow lights to be on for more than a certain amount of time.

Use a power strip

Did you know that lights and other electronic devices plugged directly into your wall may use small amounts of electricity even when they’re not in use? Use a power strip so when you are not using the lights, you can turn off the power to the strip or unplug it from the wall to help you are save energy.
