Tips to Saving Money on a Vacation

Everyone deserves a vacation now and then, but it’s no secret that the cost can quickly add up. Expert travelers have figured out how to make their money go further, and with these tips you can too!

  • Check airfare prices regularly and on multiple websites. Prices tend to fluctuate and sometimes airlines will offer deals for various reasons. If you are planning ahead for a vacation, it’s best to check the pricing routinely and be open to traveling on cheaper days of the week.
  • If you are traveling somewhere within driving distance, traveling by car is generally cheaper then traveling by plane. Road trips can also be a fun way to spend time with family and friends.
  • Hotels aren’t always the cheapest option. With websites like Airbnb and VRBO, renting a house or a condo for a family, group of friends, or even a romantic getaway can get you more bang for your buck.
  • Choose a destination that may cost less than a similar, more expensive one. Skip the cost of a passport for an exotic getaway by visiting a U.S. territory such as United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or Guam.
  • Save money by planning attractions ahead of time, some places offer discounts when purchasing for multiple days or a slow day of the week.
  • If you’re flying to a destination, you may not need to rent a car. Check for public transportation near the sights you plan to be at. Large cities usually have inexpensive train options, city buses, and you can get an Uber or Lyft just about anywhere. Plus, don’t forget about the cheapest form of transportation – walking!

If you aren’t looking for a getaway just yet, learn how to take a successful staycation!
